8-Count Lateral Step Drill: Left and Right Sequence
Marching exercisesInstructions
To perform the 8-count lateral drill, follow this sequence with clear breaks between each phase:
Phase 1: Moving to the Right (Counts 1-8)
On count 1, step your right foot out to the side, and
on count 2, close your left foot to meet it. Repeat this by stepping out on
count 3 and closing
on count 4. Continue the momentum by stepping right on count 5 and closing
on count 6. Finally, step out
on count 7, and on count 8, touch your left toe to the floor without shifting your weight. This touch prepares you to switch directions.
Phase 2: Moving to the Left (Counts 9-16)
Immediately transition by stepping your left foot out to the side on count 9, then closing your right foot to meet it on count 10. Continue by stepping left on count 11 and closing on count 12. Maintain the rhythm by stepping out on count 13 and closing on count 14. To finish the sequence, step left on count 15 and conclude on count 16 with a light toe touch of the right foot.
